Grammy District Advocacy Day

With great honor I have been asked to join Grammy Advocacy Day On October 18, 2017. I will meet with Legislator Sire and present to him Fences and I Got This.

The Recording Academy represents its 23,000 members: performers, songwriters, producers, engineers and other music professionals (no company members).  As the only organization that represents the interest of all music creators, our platform is simple: Fair market pay for all music creators across all platforms.

But while all music creators deserve fair pay, music licensing today is governed by a patchwork of laws that doesn't reflect the evolving digital marketplace and results in creators receiving below-market compensation. As a result, future artists will increasingly find it difficult to build a career in music, depriving all of us of new music that enriches our lives and culture.

Today, Congress is looking at potential changes to copyright law, providing us with a historic opportunity to update music licensing reform to ensure fair market pay for all music creators across all music platforms.  Real music licensing reform must address the following elements:

Fair Rate Standards for Songwriters and Composers:

Outdated rules that govern how royalties are set for songwriters must be changed so that when rates are set by government bodies, they should approximate the rates that would be negotiated in the free market.

Rate Parity for Sound Recordings Across Platforms:

Whether music is played on satellite radio, Internet radio, or traditional AM/FM radio, all music services should compensate artists under consistent, uniform standards that reflect fair market value.

Proper Compensation for Producers and Engineers:

Producers and Engineers are the only class of music creator completely left out of our copyright laws.  They should be protected in the law so that they receive fair and direct compensation for their work whenever their music is streamed on digital radio.

Real music licensing reform can only happen through comprehensive legislation that addresses the needs of the entire music community

Here we Go AMERICA

So since my last entry, I was thinking about writing a book because so many people ask me how do I get through all of this. I have been writing the book. I want to give a big Thank You to my Family and Friends who I have left. This is the hardest experience I have ever been through. I thought I was being sent back to work to find out that work will no take me back in my disabled condition.  I continue to still sing and write music and try to keep the faith up. I've had to get used to this new look of mine without the relationships I had. I am happy Trump is in Office because I didn't like how the Country was being run. MY New song is called I Got This with Pepe D and it flat out says how I feel about the situation I have been faced with. As a songwriter, I don't care how people take the record as long as they know to DANCE to the song and not give up. I could have given up so many times and I have yet to. Thank you to Music Cares, Elks Hoboken and those who have helped me keep a roof over my head.

Survivor Story/ Kessler

Hello, my name is Andrea Benham and it was 2015 when my accident happened. I was born in the beautiful town of Princeton NJ which is famous for it’s college and Albert Einstien.  I currently live in Weehawken, NJ and have loved living here because of it’s closeness to New York City. I am a singer songwriter. I was Grammy Nominated in 2011 for Best Dance Recording and was very active with Women in Music. I love music and how it can change people for the good.

I obtained my brain injury when I was walking out of a store and a man went through a stop sign and ran me over. I don’t remember anything from accident. I just remember waking up in a hospital. I was in the hospital for a month, my nose was broken, my jaw, was broken, and I lost the vision in my right eye. I don’t remember much from the hospital except my room faced World Trade Center. I didn’t understand what happened to me until we sat down with my attorney and my Mom was discussing my case with him with what had really happened. I remained with my Mom and Step-Dad for months and then I was ready to come home. I was very positive when I was staying with them, thinking I could beat this but when I came home to live on my own all my friends moved on with their life. I then realized that it was time for me to get some help and go to Kessler. I went to Kessler in Chester and then transferred to West Orange because it was closer to me. It was a hard pill for me to swallow but I had to come to terms with it and I am happy I did.

What is different now? Everything is different now. I have learned to stand on my own with this injury. A majority of my friends are no longer my friends anymore. I think some people can only take so much and they have moved on with their life. If anything this injury has taught me to value relationships and people in a different light. I hope that I can be a positive public figure and make music that can really make a difference.

I hope in 10 years I will give the world a classic record and finally obtain a Grammy, then I can say my recovery is finalized. I would like to get married and share my life with someone, I never wanted that before. That’s the new me. Music has always been important but sharing it hasn’t.

Happy Birthday

Today was a great day, it was my Mom's Birthday. Obviously after what has happened in the past 7 months I was grateful to share this day with her. We went to Philadelphia and went on the Duck Tour and then went to dinner at the Hard Rock Café, which is one of our favorites. I am so grateful for my Mom but in the past seven months, it has escalated. I can't imagine watching my child day in and day out in the condition I was in. She is so strong and her prayers came through.  My Mom is my lending ear now because in all reality most people have moved on with their life. I can't blame them, life goes on. I have to ensure that I fight this fight and move on with my own life. I hope to share my story with as many as possible so they don't give up. Have a great night and Happy Birthday MOM!!!

Never Give UP

Thank you for being so patient with me. Almost 6 months ago my cousin Andrea was in an awful pedestrian accident. After months in the hospital, surviving a coma, beating brain damage, and losing her eye she is back to living life. Andrea, you are truly an inspiration, never for one second give up hope, you are truly beautiful inside and out, continue living your dream. - Christie Knef

While what your reading above is all true, I get up every day and fight because it wasn't my time. Although life is much more challenging for me. I still continue to write, love music, and all of those around me.  So when you wake up in the morning, THANK GOD for another day here. I know there is a reason that I am still here and I have a lot more work to do. I want to thank everyone who has supported me throughout all of this!!! Lots of love and music is coming your way!!!

Meatball Madness! Meet the Prez

Last December I walked into a bar in Hoboken, NJ to visit a friend of mine who was working. I sat down and started talking to Dale Monaco who is a Hoboken native, born and raised in Hudson County. Dale told me about her family's Italian restaurant GP's which has 2 locations, Jersey City and Guttenberg NJ. I also learned of her dream of opening a Meatball Cart in Hoboken. As we sat there she learned of my music and I learned of her love for EDM superstars Above and Beyond. There was lots to chat about. In May 2014, GP's Meatball Cart was born and it is the most amazing and reasonable priced sandwich that you can get in Hoboken. Every Sunday from 11:30-4pm there is a line and huge demand for GP's meatballs in Elysian Park and Maxwell Park. With Summer in full swing take the family to the park, enjoy the amazing skyline, and have a meatball!!

Make a Statement!

I think it's really important when we do something in life, we make a statement. I Won't Cave the video will be released in 2 weeks from today and I hope when you see the video or as I like to call it my mini movie, you  become aware that Domestic Violence exist. Just because you think you know 2 people in a relationship, you have no idea what happens behind closed doors. Being a songwriter, I am able to put into words and let the world read my diary through music. This video is sure insight of what a true domestic violence relationship looks like. Under no circumstance is this type of relationship normal or okay. Over the years I have seen so many women sacrifice their dignity, self respect, jobs, children, and lives because they are too afraid to get away from the comfort and regularity of a domestic violence relationship. I remember standing in line auditioning for XFactor and my Ex was texting me telling me to come home because I would never make the final audition, I listened to him and came home. A year later, he was out of my life and I met someone the same day of my audition who encouraged me and was really excited that I was auditioning. Here in NY, I made it to the top 100 out of 18,000 people. I was so proud of myself and grateful that God gave me another chance to prove to myself that I could do this.  There is no room or time in life for disrespect, lying, cheating, and raising a hand to someone else. Relationships are meant to be loving, caring, supportive. If you are not happy... GET OUT! Don't Cave! Live your life love what you do! Have a great day! XO

Questions

Welcome to AndreaBenham.com I am happy to have my site back up and running! Also I am happy to blog to everyone! I hope that you will find my blogs inspiring and motivational as my songs. Saturday we were on schedule to shoot the video for I Won't Cave however I got sick and another actress got sick so it is postponed for next weekend. I don't want anyone else getting sick too. I want this video to send a positive message to anyone who feel that they are stuck in a verbal or physical abusive relationship, that they can walk away and be okay! So it's important to me that this video is 100%.It's really important that we all remind ourselves that we are amazing people, we do great things, and we have so much to offer other people in a relationship.
